Matt Margenthaler has released his squads 2012-13 schedule.
The regular season begins Nov. 10 with a home game against crosstown rival Bethany Lutheran College at 6 p.m. The Mavericks then travel to Rohnert Park, Calif., to play in the Sonoma State tournament – an event they played in two seasons ago – against a pair of opponents yet to be determined.
Minnesota State caps the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 4 p.m., contest against Mount Marty on Saturday, Nov. 24.
The 2012-13 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season opens Dec. 1, with a 4 p.m., home game against Concordia University. The four-game homestand concludes Dec. 7 and 8 at MSU entertains Winona State (8 p.m.) and Upper Iowa (6 p.m.).
The Mavericks close out the calendar year Dec. 14 and 15 when it travels to Southwest Minnesota State (8 p.m.) and Sioux Falls (6 p.m.), respectively. The new year starts where the old year finished as MSU opens the 2013 portion of the circuit at Augustana (8 p.m.) on Jan. 4 before travelling to Wayne State (6 p.m.) on Jan. 5.
After a brief homestand Jan. 11 and 12 against Northern State (8 p.m.) and MSU Moorhead (6 p.m.), MSU returns to the road for a three-game road trip beginning with an 8 p;m., contest against Concordia on Jan. 15. Following that, the Mavericks travel to St. Cloud State for an 8 p.m., against the Huskies on Jan. 18 before traveling to Minnesota Duluth on the 19th for a 6 p.m., game.
The month of January closes with a visit from Wayne State (Jan. 25, 8 p.m.) and Augustana (Jan. 26, 6 p.m.) before embarking on a trip to U-Mary (Feb. 1, 8 p.m.) and Minot State (Feb. 2, 6 p.m.). Bemidji State (8 p.m.) and Minnesota, Crookston (6 p.m.) pay a visit to the Taylor Center Feb. 8 and 9 before MSU closes the road portion of its schedule at Upper Iowa (Feb. 15, 8 p.m.) and Winona State (Feb. 16, 6 p.m.). The final weekend of the regular season sees Minnesota State hosting Sioux Falls (Feb. 22, 8 p.m.) and Southwest Minnesota State (Feb. 23, 6 p.m.).
“I am every excited about our upcoming schedule,” said Margenthaler. “I think our nonconference schedule will give us the opportunity to come together as a team as we prepare for what should be a very good league schedule.”
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament – a two-week, 16-team affair – begins Feb. 27 and runs through March 9. The first round will pit the top-seed from the South Division against the eighth-seed from the North Division, and so on until it dwindles down to a final four. The NCAA Regional Tournament runs March 16-19 and the NCAA Elite Eight tournament takes place March 27-30.
Minnesota State finished the 2011-12 season with a 7-19 record.
