Dohmen and Dooher Named Top Female Athletes for 2012-13

Mankato, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics  hosted the 27th annual Maverick Achievement Awards and Seniors Honors Dinner Sunday, Brandi Dohmen (Portage, Wis.) and Nicole Dooher (New Hope, Minn.) received the Georgene Brock Award and Female Athletics Medal of Honor respectively.
 
Dohmen, a tennis athlete, received the Georgene Brock Award, which is awarded to the most “well-rounded” female senior student-athlete, excelling on the field, in the classroom and throughout the community.
 
Dohmen owns a 3.98 grade point average and is majoring in spanish. The four-year letterwinner received the 2013 NSIC Myles Brand Award and was also a two-time NSIC All-Academic pick. She has volunteered with the VIDA Medical Brigade in Central America to bring medical supplies to rural areas while speaking in spanish. Dohmen served as a volunteer assistant coach for “Girls on the Run” to help young girls live a healthier lifestyle and owns a 44-38 career record in singles matches.
 
Dooher, a member of the women’s soccer team, was named this year’s Female Athletics Medal of Honor which is awarded to Minnesota State’s top senior female athlete.
 
Dooher was a First-Team NSCAA Division II All-American, a First-Team NSCAA Scholar All-American and a Third-Team Daktronics NCAA Division II All-American. She was the 2012 Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year and the 2012 NSIC Offensive Player of the Year.  Dooher led the Mavericks with eight goals, 12 assists and 28 points while playing in all 23 games and helping MSU to a 17-1-5 record and berth in the NCAA Elite Eight.
 
Nominations and selection for both awards were based on votes cast by Minnesota State head coaches and staff members.
