Mankato, Minn. --- The 2013 Maverick Stampede Caravan hits the road July 23rd and 24th with six stops planned for the surrounding area.
Aimed at promoting and increasing awareness of Minnesota State Athletics, the Caravan in its first year and teaming up with the Mavericks for the inaugural tour is the Official Broadcast Partner of Minnesota State Athletics, KTOE AM 1420 and The Fan Mankato AM 1230.
Tuesday, July 23rd the tour will travel through Waseca, Blue Earth and Lake Crystal. On Wednesday, July 24th, stops will include Sleepy Eye, New Ulm and St. Peter.
Coaches and student-athletes from the MSU football, men's and women's basketball and men's hockey team, along with mascot Stomper, will lead the tour team which will feature giveaways and games at the six stops.
The Maverick Stampede Caravan will reflect on the 2012-13 athletic year, another stellar campaign in the classroom and in competition, and look ahead to the upcoming campaign.
Maverick student-athletes excelled academically in 2012-13 with 130 MSU student-athletes earning at least a 3.0 GPA during Fall 2012, with another 168 earning at least a 3.0 GPA this past spring. As a group, a total of 212 Maverick student-athletes were named to the Dean's List and as a group, MSU's 570 student-athletes combined for a 3.20 cumulative grade point average.
The banner year for the Mavericks included a fourth-place national finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup final standings. Posting top-25 team finishes for MSU in 2012-13 NCAA postseason events were baseball (2nd), football (3rd), soccer (5th), men's indoor track and field (5th), wrestling (8th), men's basketball (9th), men's hockey (9th), men's outdoor track and field (12th), women's basketball (17th), softball (17th) and men's cross country (20th). The Mavericks the 2012-13 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All Sports trophy and regular season league championships in football, soccer, men's basketball, men's indoor track and field, men's outdoor track and field and softball.
