Minnesota State Kicks Off the New Year at the MSU Alumni Open

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's track and field time returned to action in impressive fashion taking home nine first-place finishes.

In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Brieanna Puckett took home first with a time of 7.61 with senior Sid'Reshia Floyd following in third at 7.76. Puckett's effort was enough to set a provisional qualifing time for the national meet. Again in the 200-meters, it was Puckett leading the charge in first place marking a time of 25.35. Fellow Mavericks Briana Holt, Taylor Glover, Floyd, and Mackenzie Beals finished third through sixth, respectively. Senior Jenni Vattinen and junior Brooke Foreman each placed in the top six in the 60-meter hurdles as well.

The Mavericks occupied the top four spots in the 400-meters as well with freshman Stacy Smidt in first with a time of 59.26. Taylor Naatz, Bonnie Pickford, and Kimmy Wreh came in second through fourth, respectively. Sophomore Taylor Glover would place once again finishing in first-place in the 600-meters posting a time of 1:36.98. Continuing on with the top finishes, freshman Megan Allen won the 800-meters with a time of 2:26.30.

Senior Halee Peterson won the title in the 1000-meters running a time of 3:07.73. A trio of Mavericks took home second through fourth in the 3000-meters as well with freshman Erin Baker leading that group at 10:50.28.

The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Kimmy Wreh, Amelia Kjos, Sarah Giese, and Miranda Schultz finished in third-place posting a time of 4:07.48.

The Mavericks saw continued success on the field side of the day as well. Senior Amanda Stangler tied for third in the high jump at 5'3". Nicole Larson and Faryn Wirkus finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault. Larson's vault of 11'11.75" met the provisional qualifying standard joining Wirkus who achieved that last month.

In the long jump, Brieanna Puckett would finish in first for the third time on the day jumping 19'5.25". Anna Veroeven joined in on the success in the triple jump event jumping 39'6", which is a provisional qualifying mark, and also currently the second best jump across all of Division II so far this season.

The events rounded out with sophomore Emma Edelen finishing eighth in the shot put and senior Morgan Stampley coming in third-place in the weight throw.

The Mavericks will travel to the University of Minnesota to participate in the Northwest Open on Saturday, January 17.
