MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's track and field team participated in day one of the two day MSU Open and Multi and featured a pair of first place finishes.
Senior Josiah Swanson (Fond du Lac, Wis.) kicked of the afternoon by taking home the first-place crown in the 3000-meter run. Swanson posted a time of 8:48.86 which is the top mark for the team so far on the season.
To go along with that, the distance medley relay team, consisting of Matthew Stocker (Salon, Iowa), Zach Gearman (Burnsville, Minn.), Brendan Gessner (Lino Lakes, Minn) and Austin O'Brien (Bettendorf, Iowa), also finished in first posting a time of 10:19.96.
Sophomore Bryan Caffin (Hudson, Wis.) came in seventh-place in the weight throw a toss of 48'5.5".
Today also marked the start of the first heptathlon event on the young season. Sophomore Ben Ojika (New Brighton, Minn.) currently sits in third-place after four events featuring a 60-meter dash time of 7.57, long jump mark of 20'3", shot put toss of 30'7" and a high jump score of 6'6". Teammate Nathan Hancock (Independence, Mo.) currently sits in ninth-place in the event after running the 60-meter dash in 7.18, tossing the shot 35'9.25 and high jumping 6'6". However, he scratched on all of his attempts in the long jump.

The Mavericks will be right back in Myers Field House tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. as day two of the MSU Open and Multi gets going.
