Mavericks Continue to Impress in California

Norwalk, Calif. --- After two consecutive days of fantastic results in the Golden State, the Minnesota State men's track and field team built on the trend at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Cerritos College.

Last night, the Maverick 4x100 relay team made noise in setting a new school-record.  Less than 24-hours later, the 4x400 relay team almost performed the same task. 
Kyran Stewart (Camilla, Ga.), Javontee Brice (Bradenton, Fla.), Emmanuel Matadi (St. Paul, Minn.) and Nathan Hancock (Independence, Mo.) posted a time of 3:12.74 finishing second in the meet.  That time is the second-fastest in school history and missed breaking the record by 0.5 seconds.  The currently rank 11th in Division II.

Senior
Keyvan Rudd (Davenport, Iowa) leaped into the national conversation as well in the high jump event.  Rudd jumped 7'1" finishing first in the meet.  His mark is not only a new personal-record, but also an automatic qualifier for the national championships ranking in tied for second in Division II.  Sophomore Frank Veldman (Eagan, Minn.) marked in at 6'8.75" finishing fifth.  

Senior
Austin O'Brien (Bettendorf, Iowa) met the provisional standard in the 5000-meters with his time of 14:31.71.  

Four Mavericks finished in the top-20 in the 60-meter hurdles with phenom
Myles Hunter (Conyers, Ga.) leading the charge.  Hunter (who automatically qualified yesterday) finished second at 14.07.  Senior Slater Powell (Corvallis, Mont.) came in at 10th with a time of 14.51. Ben Ojika (New Brighton, Minn.) and Hancock finished 16th and 20th, respectively.  Powell also ran the 400-meter hurdles finishing with a time of 55.99.

Geno Bullard (Nassau, Bahamas) posted a jump of 22'0.75" in the long jump.  Rounding out the events was David Pearcill (Eagan, Minn.) and Khalil Jor'dan (Eagan, Minn.) in the triple jump.  Pearcill finished 10th with a lunge of 47'8".  Jor'dan came in right behind in 14th at 46'11.75".

For the Mavericks, they will return to the track on April 23rd, as the annual Drake Relays begins in Des Moines, Iowa.
