Allendale, Mich. --- The Minnesota State men's track and field team wrapped up its season in impressive fashion with every Saturday participant finishing with an All-American title to their name.
The Mavericks finished with 39 points securing the seventh position. St. Augustine's took home the crown finishing with 53 total points. The seventh-place finish is the new best in school-history at the outdoor track and field championships. The 39 total points scored also sets a new school-record at the outdoor championships.
Leading the Mavericks was senior
Emmanuel Matadi (St. Paul, Minn.). The USTFCCCA Central Region Track Athlete of the Year finished first in both the 100-meter and 200-meter runs. He ran to a time of 10.21 in the 100-meter dash and then posted 20.54 in the 200-meters. His effort this weekend now gives the Mavericks 12 total outdoor track and field individual championships. The last to do so was Chris Reed who took first in the shot put in both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaigns.
Fellow senior
Kyran Stewart (Camilla, Ga.) served as a perfect accompaniment taking All-American honors in both races as well. He took fifth in the 100-meters finishing with a time of 10.43. Following that, he posted a time of 20.93 in the 200-meters finishing in fourth. Overall, Stewart finished with nine teams points from his individual effort. This is the second consecutive year that Stewart received All-American honors as he did so with Albany State University last season.
Matadi and Stewart would join up with
Richard Wilhite, Jr. (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Anthony Gustafson one last time in the 4x100 relay as well. They posted a time of 40.42 and finished in sixth-place.
Last year's 110-meter hurdle runner-up
Myles Hunter (Conyers, Ga.) secured All-American honors once again finishing with a time of 14.00, which put him in fifth-place with four team points.
Senior
Keyvan Rudd (Davenport, Iowa) added an outdoor track and field All-American to his Maverick resume as he finished the high jump in sixth-place with a height of 6'11.75". This is his third All-American honor overall joining two previous indoor awards.
Today's action marks the end to an illustrious season for the purple and gold as the seniors will move on past the hallways of Minnesota State, and all those who return will prepare to further the standing of the program.
