BROOKINGS, S.D. --- The second day of the SDSU Invitational brought more success for the Mavericks.
In the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles,
Myles Hunter(Conyers, Ga.) ran 7.77. In the finals however, he took his season one-step further. His final winning time of 7.71 not only was a season best but also is the new fastest time in division II this season.
The Mavericks took the top two spots in the 60-meter dash. Senior
Kyran Stewart (Camilla, Ga.) took home the crown with a time of 6.77. Matching his personal best time and placing second was freshman
Jake Gourley (Eagan, Minn.) (6.81).
Pacing the Mavericks in the 400-meter dash was
Javontee Brice (Bradenton, Fla.) with a time of 48.96, which was good enough for eighth-place. Adding to his already impressive record setting weekend, freshman
John Schuster (Wells, Minn.) followed close behind in ninth in 48.97. Rounding out the top 20 for the Mavs was fellow freshman
Reid Diamond (San Antonio, Tex.) in 49.53.
 The field events got off to a great start for the Mavericks with three high jumpers placing in the top-ten. Leading the charge in second-place was
Alex Campbell (Ellsworth, Wis.) with a jump of 6'08.75'', which qualifies him provisionally for nationals. Following right behind him in third was
Frank Veldman (Eagan, Minn.) with the same height of 6'08.75''. Freshman
Jeff DeCock (Lamberton, Minn.) back in action after his setting the best high jump of the season a month ago placed tied for seventh (6'-04.75'').
The long jump saw two Mavericks athletes in the top-ten. Placing eighth was
Shane Zylstra (Willmar, Minn.) with a leap of 22'02.50'' and following right behind him in ninth was
Campbell (Ellsworth, Wis.) (22'00.75'').
Campbell had better success in the triple jump taking second-place with a jump of 46'05.25''.
After leading the men's weight throw yesterday, Bryan Caffin's throw of 55'05'', placed fifth overall after today's competition.
