MANKATO, Minn. --- The conference championship season got started on Sunday as both the men and women competed in their respective pentathlon and heptathlon.
The Maverick men had four athletes competing today. With three events remaining,
Jack Curtis (Bombard, Ill.)
Ben Ojika (New Brighton, Minn.),
Joe Williams (St. Paul, Minn.), and
Anyah Nutter (San Diego, Calif.) are in first, second, fourth, and tenth, respectively.
Curtis's day started out with a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.07). Following that, he leaped 20'01" in the long jump. His toss of 35'09.50" in the shot put was the sixth-farthest among the field. He would follow that up with another second-place finish in the high jump (6'06.25'').
Ojika's final leap of 6'6.25" tied his teammates as the second best high jump to go along with a 36'04.25" toss in the shot put. He cruised to a final time in the 60-meter dash of 7.43. Rounding out his day one action, he marked a final long jump attempt at 21'03.25".
The third athlete competing today was
Nutter. His time of 7.21 in the 60-meter dash was the second fastest behind his teammate. He leaped 20'02.50'' in the long jump and also tied his teammates in the high jump (6'06.25''). Rounding out his score was the shot put (29'01'').
Williams days started out with a 7.38 in the 60-meter dash. He followed that up with a leap of 20'.09'' in the long jump. His shot put was 31'06.75'' and high jump of 5'07.75''.
The lone female competing today in the pentathlon for the mavericks was
Jessika Dieringer (Fredonia, Wis.) placing 11
th overall. She placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.34.

The NSIC Multi Championships will wrap up tomorrow with three events remaining for the men's heptathlon. The 60-meter hurdles is schedule to commence at 10 a.m. in Myers Field House.
