MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's track and field team will head into the open events with 17 points already to their name.
The NSIC Multi Championships wrapped up Monday afternoon with
Ben Ojika (New Brighton, Minn.) placing second in the heptathlon with a total of 4,872, which qualifies him provisionally for nationals. Teammates
Jack Curtis (Lombard, Ill),
Anyah Nutter(San Diego, Calif.),
Joe Williams (St. Paul, Minn.) placed fourth, sixth, and eighth, respectively. All four Mavericks gained valuable points towards the NSIC champions in two weeks.
Ojika began the day off with a time of 8.39 in the 60-meter hurdle event, which was the fastest time. He followed that up with a personal best pole vault of 13'05.25". In the last leg of the heptathlon, Ojika posted a time of 3:10.25 in the 1000-meter run.
Building off of
Ojika's success, teammate Curtis commenced his second day events with a final time of 9.22 in the 60-meter hurdles. Following that, he ended the pole vault with a high of 10'10". In the last event of the meet, he ran the 1000-meters in 2:56.18. He ended up with 4,636 points, which marks as a provisional qualifying standard.
Nutter ran his way to 8.56 in the 60-meter hurdles. He reached a height of 10'06'' in the pole vault and rounded out the day with a time of 3:02.21 in the 1000-meter run.
Williams's final time in the 60-meter hurdles was 9.25. The pole vault had him at 11'01.75''. Lastly, he ran the 1000-meters in 2:47.26.

The Mavericks next action will take place this weekend, as they travel back to Minneapolis to take part in the Snowshoe Open.
