MANKATO, Minn. --- At a meet where many student-athletes took the weekend off, the Maverick high jumpers led the way.
In the individual events, senior
Kyran Stewart (Camilla, Ga.) set the tone early as he finished first in the 60-meter dash, running it in 6.75, which is the fifth fastest time in division II this season. He was followed closely by freshman
Jake Gourley (Eagan, Minn.) in second, who also ran a fast time of 6.81. This is his personal best and ranks 12
th nationally. For the 60-meter hurdles,
Ben Ojika (New Brighton, Minn.) led the Maverick charge finishing sixth in 8.42. He was followed closely by
Anyah Nutter (San Diego, Calif.), who placed seventh (8.46).
The Mavericks placed three runners in the top ten in the 200-meter dash. Leading the charge was freshman
Gourley with a time of 22.01, which was a personal best this season. Placing sixth was another freshman,
Ryan Immeker (Brandon, S.D.) in 22.64. He was followed again by another freshman
Jack Curtis in eighth (22.67).
The 400-meters would see a first time winner in freshman
Joe Williams (St. Paul, Minn.) taking home the crown with a time of 50.75.
The mile run saw
Brendan Gessner (Lino Lakes, Minn.) place sixth in 4:25.77 which is a season best for him.
Steven Erredge (Des Moines, Iowa) placed third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:11.40. The 3000-meter run had
Austin Pasch (Tomah, Wis.) come in fourth-place with a run of 8:42.27.
Not to be forgotten, the 4x400 relay team also had a fantastic day. Comprised of
Javontee Brice (Bradenton, Fla.),
Reid Diamond (San Antonio, Tex.),
Stewart, and
John Schuster (Wells, Minn.) the 4x400 team took home first-place with a time of 3:19.58.

For the field events the day went to the Maverick high jumpers. Taking the top two spots were
Frank Veldman (Eagan, Minn.) (6'08.75'') and
Alex Campbell(Ellsworth, Wis.) (6'06.75").
Veldman qualified provisionally for nationals with his jump.
Triple jump was a major strength for the Mavericks today as
Michael Sandle took home first-place with a jump of 48'09.50''. Claiming second for MSU was
Campbell (47'03.50''). Taking the fifth and sixth spots were
Ojika and
Veldman.
Rounding out the day was
Bryan Caffin (Hudson, Wis.) who finished the shot put at 47'07" and the weight throw at 53'03.00". Those marks were good enough for ninth and eighth, respectively. Freshman
Sam Udermann (Foley, Minn.) finished ninth in the weight throw (52'09.25''). Taking second place in the shot put was freshman
Jayme LaPlante with a personal best throw of 50'08.25''.

Next weekend will see the Mavericks head west on Highway 14 as they are scheduled to take part in the SDSU Indoor Invitation, held in Brookings, S.D. They will also host the NSIC Multi the 14
