Los Angeles, Calif. --- The Minnesota State women's track and field team took to the west coast to compete in multiple meets, beginning with the California State University, Los Angeles Twilight Open.
The Mavericks had some strong showings in the field events today. Leading the way was freshman
Khadiya Hollingsworth winning the high jump title with a personal best leap of 5'8.75''. This currently ranks tied for the second best jump in all of division II and qualifies her provisionally for nationals. Placing tied for sixth was
Brianna Ziolkowski jumping 5'2'' and coming in ninth was
Kayla Lindell (5'08'').
Faryn Wirkus had another good showing for the Mavericks with her second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 12'6''.
Competing in her home town,
Ariel Thomas, placed 2
nd in the triple jump with a leap of 39'1.40'', which ranks 15
th in NCAA Division II. She also placed 12
th in the long jump with a mark of 17'3''.
Freshman
Afure Adah competed in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. In a strong field of sprinters, she placed 12
th in a time of 12.18 and a season-best time of 24.82 placing eighth in the 200. Fellow Mavericks
Karlona Gregory (12.31) and
Mackenzie Beals (12.33) placed 15
th and 17
th, respectively.
Junior
Haley Kruger tried something new today and ran the 400-meter dash placing 11
th in 58.58. The 800-meters saw
Megan Allen take home third place with a time of 2:16.73.
Brooke Foreman set a career best in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.65.
