Sioux Falls, S.D. --- Led by a quartet of high jumpers, the Minnesota State men's track and field team got off to a fast start after first-day action at the 2016 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Mavericks dominated in the high jump with senior
Frank Veldman (Eagan, Minn.) finishing first with an effort of 6-8. The outdoor conference title is the second of Veldman's career (he also won in 2014). Freshman
Jeff DeCock (Lamberton, Minn.) also leapt 6-8, but finished second based on number of misses. Junior
Alex Campbell (Ellsworth, Wis.) placed fourth (6-6) and freshman
Anyah Nutter (San Diego, Calf.) was sixth (6-4).
Alex Campbell also picked up points for Minnesota State with a fourth-place finish in the long jump (22-11.00). Sophomore
Geno Bullard finished sixth in the event with a leap of 22-09.50.
Junior
Bryan Caffin earned a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 169-04.
Through seven events scored, the Mavericks sit in second place with 43.5 points.
Minnesota State has won the last four NSIC men's outdoor track & field championships and a conference-leading 28 team championships all-time.
