Bradenton, Fla. --- A pair of hurdlers led the way as Minnesota State individuals competed in second day action of the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bradenton, Fla., today.
Junior
Myles Hunter, a Gonyers, Ga., native making his third straight appearance at the NCAA outdoor track & field championships, had the fastest prelim time in the 110m hurdles, clocking in at 13.71 in qualifying for tomorrow's finals. Hunter finished second in the event as a freshman two years ago and was fifth last year. Hunter enters this year's national championships with the second-fastest qualifying time in the country (school record 13.60 at the Beach Invitational April 18) and won this year's NCAA Division II men's indoor track & field title in the 60m hurdles.
A junior from Miami, Fla.,
Altoniece Williams broke her own school record in the 100m hurdles today when she ran a 13.51 in prelims. Her time today was the third-fasted qualifying time for tomorrow's finals. Williams earned All-America honors in the 60m hurdles at the 2016 NCAA DII Indoor T&F Championships by placing second with a time of 8.42.
Junior
Haley Kruger, making her first appearance at the national outdoor championships,
had the 14th-fasted time
in in the 800m prelims (2:10.94) and junior
Brooke Foreman, who also made her first national outdoor championship appearance today, placed 16th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.11. Senior sprinter
Richard Wilhite, who made was making his second appearance at the national outdoor championships, posted the 16th-fasted 200m time with a 21.55 mark.
Besides Hunter in the 110m hurdles and Williams in the 100m hurdles, other Mavericks competing in finals tomorrow include sophomore
MIchael Sandle and junior
Alex Campbell in the triple jump, the men's 100m relay team and freshman high jumper
Khadiya Hollingsworth.
