HONOLULU, Hawaii --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team suffered a 75-61 setback to Hawaii Pacific at the Oahu Thanksgiving Classic Wednesday afternoon.
Logan Anderson, who made her first career start, got the scoring started for Minnesota State (0-4) after collecting a defensive rebound and delivering a layup to make the score 2-0. The Mavericks then stretched their lead to three, 9-6, as

Claire Ziegler down low for the layup at the 6:50 mark. However, Hawaii Pacific (3-1) led after the first frame, 16-13.
The Mavericks started the second quarter with a 6-0 run to regain the edge, 19-16, as
Monica Muth connected on a layup. The Sharks then battled back to steal the lead, 23-22, after Alysha Marcucci netted a momentum swinging triple with 5:06 to play in the half. The Sharks quickly stretched their advantage to six, 28-22, by the 3:52 mark. Minnesota State trailed at the half, 36-28.
At the break, Hawaii Pacific held the edge in rebounds, 23-14, and assists, 8-6. As a team, the Mavericks shot 44.4% from the field while the Sharks shot 42.4%. Anderson led Minnesota State with nine first half points.
The Mavericks started the third quarter with a quick 6-0 run fueled by four points from Ziegler to pull within two, 36-44, at the 6:25 mark. A few possessions later Minnesota State locked the game at 38 as Anderson found Ziegler in the paint for a layup with 5:19 on the clock. The Sharks retaliated to stretch their edge back up to eight, 49-41, with 2:22 remaining in the quarter. Hawaii Pacific led after three, 54-48.
The Sharks opened the fourth quarter with a 7-2 run to push their lead to 11, 61-50.
Heidi Cap ended the run with a layup at the 5:41 mark. Following a timeout, Hawaii Pacific generated a steal leading to a three pointer by Marcucci to make the score 64-52, with 4:55 remaining. Minnesota State could not slow the Sharks and went on to fall, 75-61.
As a team, Hawaii Pacific held the advantage in rebounds, 40-33, and assists, 18-11. The Sharks shot 47.4% in comparison to the Mavericks 35.6%. Both teams scored 38 points in the paint and the Minnesota State bench contributed 17 points.
Ziegler set the standard for the Mavericks with a team-best 15 points to go along with six rebounds. Anderson netted 11 points with six rebounds and five assists. Sophomore
Taylor Drost rounded out the top performers with 10 points of her own.
Minnesota State will return to action tomorrow against Chaminade. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. (CST)
