MANKATO, Minn. --- Minnesota State connected on a season-high 14 three pointers in Saturdays 90-67 win over Winona State on senior day at Taylor Center.
The last time Minnesota State (10-16, 8-12 NSIC) made more than 10 three pointers was on Jan. 29, 2016 when the Mavericks netted 11. Additionally, it is the most triples made since MSU posted 17 against Gustavus Adolphus on Nov. 26, 2012.
After a pair of Winona State (13-11, 9-11 NSIC) baskets to open the action, Minnesota State connected on three straight three pointers claim its first lead of the night, 9-4, at the 7:42 mark. Senior
Claire Jordan connected on two shots from downtown over the stretch and junior
Monica Muth delivered the other. The Mavericks continued to apply pressure pushing their lead into double digits, 23-9, after a Jordan jumper with 1:37 to play in the frame. Minnesota State led after one, 23-9.
The Warriors battled back in the second quarter chipping the Mavericks edge down to seven, 26-19, following a jump shot from Liz Evenocheck. The Minnesota State offense then erupted with a 14-4 run to stretch its lead up to 17, 40-23, with 3:07 to play in the half. Freshman
Tayla Stuttley led the charge on the streak with five points. The Mavericks took a 42-30 advantage into the locker room at the break.
As a team, Minnesota State shot 45.8% from the field and connected on eight three pointers in the first half of play. Jordan paced Minnesota State with 14 points and shot 4-of-4 from downtown in the first two quarters.
Winona State battled back in third quarter outscoring Minnesota State, 22-20. The Warriors began the frame cutting the deficit down to single digits, 42-35, with a 5-0 run. Minnesota State responded with seven unanswered points to expand its edge up to 14, 49-35, after Jordan netted a jumper from downtown with 7:03 on the scoreboard. Winona State once again was able to answer and pull within nine, 51-42, following a Gabie Doud three at the 4:55 mark. However, the Mavericks led after three, 62-52.
Minnesota State began to pull away opening the fourth quarter with five unanswered points to make the score 67-52 with 9:02 to play. Winona State could not slow the Maverick attack as freshman

Logan Anderson on the perimeter for a game icing three pointer, 85-63, with 2:06 remaining. Minnesota State closed out the remaining time to pick up its second straight win, 90-67.
Both teams pulled down 31 rebounds, while the Mavericks held the edge in assists, 17-13. Minnesota State shot 53.4% from the field in comparison to Winona State's 43.9%. The MSU bench also contributed 31 points.
Jordan led Minnesota State with a game-high 21 points and shot 83.3% (5-6) from downtown. Muth and freshman
Brooke Tonsfeldt both reached double figures in scoring with 12. Senior
Mackenzie Dahl pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and added 11 points. Klitzke rounded out the top performers with 10 points and three assists.
Minnesota State returns to action at Southwest Minnesota State on Jan. 16. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
