Nov. 25, 1994—Brian Lyke and Ryan Rintoul both record hat tricks as MSU wins its 450th game by a 9-1 count over St. Scholastica. Those two and Alex Wheaton combine to set a school record by closing out the game with three goals in a 38-second span.
Feb. 3, 1995—Chris Hvinden christens the new Mankato Civic Center with a goal at 1:58 of the first period in MSU's 6-3 win over Alabama-Huntsville. Rintoul's goal at 6:55 begins a four-goal third period for the Mavericks and is the 4,000th goal in school history.
July 17, 1995—Mankato business group presents NCAA Division I proposal to MSU.
Dec. 20, 1995—The board of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) approves MSU's bid to become an NCAA Division I member.
Mar. 2, 1996—The Mavericks close out 27 years as an NCAA II-III member with a 4-3 home loss to eventual NCAA II national champion Alabama-Huntsville.
Oct. 11, 1996 —MSU kicks off its first season as an independent member of NCAA Division I with an away game at Ferris State. MSU defeats FSU the next night (5-4 in overtime) to record first win as a member of Division I. The Mavericks go on to record a 17-14-3 won-loss mark for 1996-97.
Nov. 2, 1996—Freshman forward Aaron Fox scores a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as the Mavericks earn their first Division I home win, a 5-3 victory over Ferris State. Later Fox would cap his his four-year MSU career by being named All-WCHA Third Team.
April 24, 1997—MSU makes presentation during Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) meetings in Florida.
June 10, 1997—Announcement is made that the WCHA has invited MSU to participate in the 1997-98 post-season tournament and with its first completely Division I schedule in place, MSU accepts.
Oct. 17, 1997—Des Christopher stops 36 Minnesota-Duluth shots as the Mavericks open the '97-99 season by handing the Bulldogs a 2-1 loss in Duluth. MSU goes on to record wins over Ferris State and Denver during the season.
Nov. 28, 1998—Ryan Severson's goal at 15:03 of the third period caps a 3-1 win at home over Connecticut and is the 4,500th in school history.
March 14, 1998—MSU drops 5-4 decision to the University of North Dakota in WCHA play-off action to finish 15-17-6 for the season. Including the two play-off games with UND, the Mavericks finish 3-13-2 in games against WCHA teams.
May 1, 1998—WCHA announces that MSU's application for membership has been accepted and the Mavericks will begin playing a full conference schedule in 1999-2000.
Oct. 23, 1998—MSU downs Canisius 11-3 as head coach Don Brose claims his 500th career win.
March 12, 1999—A goal by Andy Fermoyle in overtime gives the Mavericks a 3-2 win over #1-ranked North Dakota in first round action of the WCHA play-offs. MSU drops the next two games to finish the season with a 18-16-5 mark.
Jan. 22, 2000— Sophomore goaltender Eric Pateman stymies top-ranked Wisconson with 39 saves as Minnesota State claims 3-0 home win. Pateman would go on to establish MSU career records for save percentage, goals against average and assists by a goaltender.
Jan. 29, 2000—Andy Fermoyle's goal at the 2:01 mark of overtime gives Mavericks first-ever win over the University of Minnesota. Before he was done, Fermoyle amassed seven game-winning goals during his career, three of which came in overtime.
Feb. 26, 2000—A school record and standing-room only crowd of 5,144 watch the Mavericks and second-ranked North Dakota battle to 1-1 overtime draw in the Civic Center.
March 11, 2000—Minnesota State earns 3-2 win to sweep visiting Alaska-Anchorage in first round of WCHA play-offs.
March 16, 2000—Minnesota claims 6-4 Final Five victory to end MSU's season. Mavericks finish '99-00 with 21-14-4 mark. Brose finishes with 536-327-72 all-time mark and ranks seventh on all-time NCAA coaching wins list.
March 27, 2000— Longtime assistant coach and former player Troy Jutting is named head coach of the Minnesota State men's hockey program.
Oct. 27, 2000—Six different players score goals and Todd Kelzenberg stops 36 of 38 shots to give Troy Jutting his first win, a 6-2 victory over North Dakota.
June 21, 2001— Freshman forward Tim Jackman becomes the first Minnesota State player to be selected in the NHL Draft when Columbus chooses him with the second round - 38th overall. Recruit Jake Brenk was also selected in the same draft when Edmonton made him a fifth-round second selection. By the summer of 2002 Jackman was gone when he turned pro by inking a deal with the Blue Jackets.
March 9, 2002 — The Mavericks conclude the 2001-02 season with a 7-3 loss at University of Wisconsin in first round of WCHA playoffs and finish the year with a 16-20-2 overall record.
Nov. 2, 2002 — Sophomore defenseman Steven Johns tallies 5,000th goal in school history with game-winner in 3-1 victory over Bemidji State.
Feb. 22, 2003 — 5-4 win over UND gives MSU home sweep over North Dakota and extends nation's best unbeaten streak to school-record 17 games.
March 29, 2003 — Mavericks drop 5-2 decision to Cornell in first-ever appearance in NCAA Division I postseason tournament and complete season with 20-11-10 overall record. Troy Jutting is named WCHA Coach of the Year, and high-scoring forwards Shane Joseph and Grant Stevenson named First Team All-WCHA and All-Americans.
Nov. 14, 2003 — Minnesota State and Michigan Tech battle to 0-0 overtime tie in Mankato marking the first scoreless game in the history of the program.
Dec. 20, 2003 — Senior forward Shane Joseph scores three times as the Mavericks rally from 7-1 deficit to earn 8-7 home win over eventual national champion Denver. By the end of the season Joseph had concluded his career with 68-76--144 to rank 16th on MSU's all-time list.
Dec. 22, 2005 --- For the first time ever a pair of former MSU players played against each other in a National Hockey League game when forwards Grant Stevenson (MSU 2001-03) and Tim Jackman (MSU 2000-02) took the ice for a San Jose-Phoenix game in Phoenix.
June 6, 2007 - Forward Ryan Carter becomes the first former Maverick to win the Stanley Cup when Anaheim completes its successful run through the NHL play-offs.
March 16, 2008 - After finishing fourth in the 2007-08 WCHA regular season standings, Minnesota State hosts the University of Minnesota in league first-round play-off action at Alltel Center. Sophomore forward Trevor Bruess scores a shorthended goal off a pass from future Philadelphia Flyer Jon Kalinski at 17:37 of the second overtime period to lift the Mavericks to a 1-0 win in the first game, but the Gophers claim the next two games (both games also go into overtime) to win the epic postseason series.
March 20, 2008 - Senior forward Joel Hanson becomes the second player from Minnesota State in four years to be named the WCHA Student-Athlete of the Year. Defenseman Steven Johns was the 2004-05 recipient of the award.
Oct. 17, 2008 - Junior forward Zach Harrison sets a school record and ties a NCAA record when he scores the final three goals of a 5-1 home win over North Dakota and all three tallies are of the shorthanded variety.
Feb. 20, 2010 - Former Maverick David Backes earns a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic games as the U.S. falls to Canada in the gold-medal game in Vancouver.
April 13, 2012 - Nebraska Omaha associate head coach and Crookston, Minn., native Mike Hastings named head coach.
March 30, 2013 - Minnesota State concludes the 2012-13 season with a 24-14-3 record with a 4-0 loss to #5 Miami in NCAA Regional action. Named All-WCHA First Team and WCHA Goaltender of the Year, freshman Stephon Williams became the first Maverick to earn WCHA Rookie of the Year honors.
March 22, 2014 - Minnesota State claims first-ever Broadmoor Trophy as WCHA Final Five champions with a 4-1 win over Ferris State in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Mavericks went on to finish 2013-14 with a 26-14-1 mark, which included a second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
March 7, 2015 - Mavericks claim first-ever MacNaughton Cup as WCHA regular-season champions with 3-0 win at Bemidji State. Rated #1 in the nation for five weeks during the course of the season, Minnesota State goes on to win second straight Broadmoor Trophy as league post-season champions. The Mavericks post 29-8-3 record after falling in first round of NCAA tournament to RIT in regional game played in South Bend, Indiana.
March 4, 2016 - Minnesota State claims a share of the WCHA regular-season championship with a 6-1 home win over Bemidji State. The Mavericks eventually forge a 21-13-7 record for their fourth-straight 20-win season.
March 26, 2016 - A week after completing his junior season at Minnesota State, junior defenseman Casey Nelson made his NHL debut with Buffalo in a game vs. Winnipeg. Nelson, the 2016 WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Sabres March 22nd.
March 14, 2017 - Defenseman Daniel Brickley was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and forward Marc Michaelis was named the WCHA Rookie of the year. Minnesota State finished the year with a 22-13-4 record.
April 13, 2017 - USA Hockey announces that Maverick All-America sophomore defenseman Daniel Brickley has been selected to play for Team USA at the 2017 IIHF World Championship. Brickley skated in five games at the tournament (0-0--0).
March 14, 2018 - Team captain C.J. Suess, the 2018 WCHA Player of the Year, named a Top Ten Hobey Baker Award finalist. Later, Suess was named an AHCA First Team All-American.
March 23, 2018 - Mavericks drop 3-2 overtime decision to eventual national champion Minnesota Duluth in NCAA West Regional in Sioux Falls to finish 2017-18 with 29-10-1 record.
January 5, 2019 - Minnesota State head coach Mike Hastings leads Team USA to a silver medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver.
March 23, 2019 - Junior winger Nick Rivera scores at 1:37 of overtime as Minnesota State, which used a pair of goals scored with an extra attacker near the end of regulation, rallies for a 3-2 home victory over Bowling Green to claim the 2019 WCHA postseason tournament title. The Mavericks, which set a school record for wins with 32, also won the Broadmoor Trophy as the WCHA regular-season champions in 2018-19 and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in seven seasons under Hastings.
April 10, 2020 - AHCA announces that Marc Michaelis, Dryden McKay and Connor Mackey have been named All-Americans after the Mavericks finish season as MacNaughton Cup champions (first place in WCHA regular-season) and and overall record of 31-5-2.
March 27, 2021 - Ryan Sandelin's OT goal lifts Minnesota State to 4-3 win over Quinnipiac for program's first-ever NCAA DI playoff victory. Mavericks advance to Frozen Four for first time and finish season with 22-5-1 mark.
April 8, 2022 - Dryden McKay becomes Minnesota State's first Hobey Baker Award recipient. The senior netminder established a NCAA record with 34 career shutouts and set a single-season NCAA mark with 38 wins in 2021-22.
April 9, 2022 - A 5-1 loss to Denver in the national championship game brings Minnesota State's season to an end. The Mavericks had an 18-game winning streak en route to a school record 38 wins.
March 18, 2023 - Zach Krajnik scores the overtime game winning goal for the Mavericks in the CCHA Championship in Mankato in front of 4,805.
April 10, 2024 - Luke Strand was named head coach of Minnesota State men's hockey program. The Mavericks advance to the CCHA Semifinals in Strand's first season with an 18-15-4 overall record.
March 21, 2025 - Minnesota State defeats St. Thomas 4-2 to win the CCHA Mason Cup Championship in Mankato in front of 4,538 and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in program history.
