Madison, Wis. — Minnesota State forward Emmi Leinonen, a sophomore from Valkeakoski, Finland, earned this week's Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in last weekend's series against the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux.

Minnesota State defeated UND in Saturday's contest, 4-2 and finished tied with North Dakota on Sunday with a 1-1 score after overtime.

Leinonen finished with a team-high four points (3-1--4) and finished tied for the lead with seven shots on goal. Capitalizing on three of her seven shots on goal gave her a .429 shooting percentage. Of Leinonen’s three goals, she tallied a power-play goal, a game-tying goal and a game-winner. She also earned a +3 plus/minus rating.

Through the first four games of the 2009-10 season, Leinonen is MSU’s leading scorer with five goals, two assists and seven points.

The Mavericks, unbeaten at 3-0-1, are idle this week until returning to on-ice action on Oct. 30-31 at Ohio State.
