Women Puck Handlers Drop Second Straight Contest to Buckeyes

    Columbus, Ohio — The Minnesota State women's hockey team dropped their second straight game to Ohio State, 4-1. The Mavericks drop to 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. 

The Buckeyes opened up scoring in the first period just 1:15 into the game when Hokey Langan scored on an unassisted power play goal. Ohio State then increased their lead to 2-0 after a Brittany Carlson goal 17:50 into the first. Carlson was assisted by Natalie Spooner  and Shannon Reilly.

The Buckeyes continued their scoring attack to start the second when Jenna Kilpatrick capitalized on passes from Laura Mcintosh and Langan. The Mavericks then captured their first and only goal of the game at 18:27 into the second period when junior forward Lisa Edman shot the puck past goaltender Chelsea Knapp. Edman was assisted by sophomore forward Moira O’Connor and senior forward Christina Lee.

The Buckeyes tallied an insurance goal 1:26 into the third from Mcintoch to seal the victory.

Junior goaltender Paige Thunder earned her first action of the season in the loss. Thunder saved 26 shots and allowed four goals.

The Mavericks (3-2-1 overall, 1-2-1 WCHA) will continue conference action next weekend at home when they play host to Bemidji State at All Seasons Arena.
