Five Maverick Volleyballers Honored by NSIC

Mankato, Minn.  ---  Five Minnesota State volleyball players were honored by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as the league named postseason award recipients. The awards included individual awards, NSIC All-Conference Team and Honorable Selection.

Senior right-side hitter Ally Kwikkel (Waverly, Iowa), junior outside hitter Amanda Beekman (Marshall, Minn.), sophomore setter Brittany Stamer (Hutchinson, Minn.) and freshman outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty (Belle Plaine, Minn.) each earned spots on the NSIC All-Conference Team and junior middle blocker Kimber Kuhl (Chaska, Minn.) was named Honorable Selection.

Kwikkel sits third on the team with 276 kills. She also owns 77 blocks, which is ranks second on the team. Kwikkel's best performance of the season thus far came against Southwest Minnesota State (10/9) when she racked up 17 kills and five blocks. Kwikkel is only one of two seniors on the team making her an important leader for the young squad.

Beekman sits first on the team with 344 kills (3.47 per set). She owns 51 blocks, which is fourth on the squad. her best performance of the season thus far came against St. Cloud State (09/22) when she racked up 22 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, four digs and two blocks. Beekman was recognized as NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on (9/28) and  AVCA D2 National Player of the Week this season (9/29), marking only the fourth Maverick to ever receive the honor. In her third season with the team, she also earned the 1,000th kill of her career, joining the impressive Maverick 1,000 Kill Club.

In her second season, Stamer leads the team in assists with 1,228, averaging 12.04 per set. Stamer also owns 265 digs and 27 service aces. Her best match this season came against Indianapolis when she earned a career best 59 assists and 15 digs. Stamer was named the NSIC Setter of the Week two times this season (9/8 and 9/28).

Fogarty sits second on the team in kills with 324 (3.34 per set). Fogarty also owns a .246 hitting percentage and has tallied nine assists and 13 service aces so far this season. Fogarty sits fifth on the team in digs with 183. Her best match thus far came on the first game of her career against Tarleton State (8/28) when she tallied a career best-23 kills and an impressive .452 hitting percentage.

Kuhl leads the Mavericks in hitting percentage with a .356; which ranks fifth in the NSIC. Her best performance of the season came in a match against Bemidji State earlier this season (10/30). In the match, Kuhl earned 13 kills off of her 17 attempts for a career best .765 hitting percentage. Kuhl currently sits fourth on the team in kills with 221 (2.33 per set) and third on the team in blocks with 65 (.68 per set).

The Minnesota State volleyball squad (25-5 and 15-3 NSIC) wraps up the regular season on the road at Northern State and the University of Mary, Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
