Mankato, Minn.--- The Mavericks wrapped up their series with the Beavers Saturday afternoon, BSU topped Minnesota State, 3-1. The loss dropped the Mavericks record to 3-3-2, 1-3-2-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

After two scoreless periods Bemidji State got on the board first while the teams were skating four on four as freshman Emily Erickson beat MSU goaltender Paige Thunder at the 3:33 mark in the third period.  Erika Wheelhouse earned her the first of three assists on the Erickson goal.

Minnesota State responded just 0:40 later when senior forward Ashley Young beat Beaver’s goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova for the score. Sophomore blueliner Ariel Mackley and freshman forward Lauren Smith both assisted on the equalizing goal.

The fast paced action continued when Bemidji State’s Erika Johnson put a shot on goal that ended up sitting behind MSU goaltender Paige Thunder.  Erin Johnson took advantage of the loose puck and lit the lamp to give the Beavers a 2-1 lead.  Erika Wheelhouse and Erin Cody both assisted on the goal.

Erin Johnson scored an insurance, empty net goal after the Maverick’s pulled Thunder with 0:47 left in the final period.  Franny Dorr and Erika Wheelhouse both received assists on the goal.

Minnesota State University out-shot Bemidji State 31-27 in loss.  Both teams converted on power play goals as MSU was 1-8 and BSU finished 1-6 with the extra skater.

Minnesota State will continue WCHA action next weekend, November 13-14, playing host to the University of Minnesota.
