10/27/2010 4:24:50 PM

Madison, Wis. — The office of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced Minnesota State rookie forward Kathleen Rogan has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week. The honor is the first of Rogan's career and first for the Mavericks this season.

Rogan, a Vancouver, B.C. native, notched a three-goal hat trick to help the Mavericks to a 4-2 league victory over sixth-ranked North Dakota last Friday. Her first goal of the game knotted things up in the first period while her second tally – a shorthander – gave MSU a 2-1 lead at 5:29 of the second period. Her third goal of the night, another unassisted breakaway goal at 16:47 of the third, put MSU up 4-2 and sealed the win. The hat trick marks the first for an MSU player since Ashley Young vs Bemidji State in 2008. Rogan also finished the weekend with a +2 plus/minus rating and a team-high nine shots.

The Minnesota State women’s hockey squad will travel to Madison, Wis. this weekend and face the first-ranked Wisconsin Badgers in a couple of Western Collegiate Hockey Association contests.
