Mavericks to Close Nonconference Schedule Against Robert Morris

Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women’s hockey team hosts the Robert Morris University Colonials for a nonconference-series this weekend. The Mavericks (6-9-1 overall, 5-7-0-0 WCHA) and Colonials (2-12-1 overall, 1-2-0 CHA) will drop the puck at 7:07 p.m. Friday, and wrap-up the series on Saturday at 3:07 p.m.

Program History: The 2010-11 season will mark the 13th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State…MSU has competed in 435 games...The Mavericks hold a 126-271-38 (.335) all-time record.

Follow the Leader: Junior defenseman Ariel Mackley will serve as the team captain this season, with juniors forward Moira O’Connor and junior defenseman Jackie Otto as the alternate captains.

A Look at the Colonials:  The Robert Morris Colonials own a 2-12-1 overall record with a 1-2-0 mark in the College Hockey America conference...They have recorded 31 goals to their opponents 70 goals...Robert Morris has scored five goals in the first period, 13 in the second and 13 in the third...The Colonials have tallied 367 shots to their opponents 479 shots...RMU is 12-73 (.164) on the power play, while its opponents are 19-81 (.235)...The Colonials have 11 skaters that have had at least one goal and have had 13 skaters that have had at least one point this season...Robert Morris is led by: senior forward Sara O’Malley (6-7--13), sophomore forward Dayna Newsom (4-9--13), junior forward Brianna Delaney (3-8--11) and freshman forward Thea Imbrogno (3-8--11)...O’Malley, Newsom, Delaney, sophomore forward Jennifer Kindret and senior forward Maria Stoa each own a team-high two power play goals...Senior forward Maria Stoa leads the team in penalties with seven for 25 minutes...RMU has had two  goaltenders in net for them this season, sophomore netminder Kristen DiCiocco who owns a team-best 2-4-1 record, a 3.61 G.A.A., .870 save percentage and 200 saves and senior netminder Daneca Butterfield who owns a 0-8-0 record, a 5.68 G.A.A., .846 save percentage and 209 saves...Head coach for Robert Morris is Nate Handrahan who embarks on his fifth season as the leader of the Colonial women’s ice hockey program. Taking control of the squad for the 2006-07 season.

MSU/RMU History: The Minnesota State Mavericks are owners of a 2-1-0 overall record against Robert Morris...The two teams last faced-off in the 2007-08 season, a series in which the two teams split...MSU took the first game by a score of, 2-1, and Robert Morris took the second contest by a score of, 4-7...Prior to the two teams splitting in 2007-08, The Mavericks were victorious in the two teams first ever meeting; a 6-0 win.
