The Minnesota State women's hockey squad will look to get back on track with a pair of WCHA contests this weekend

Minnesota State Returns to League-Action Against Bemidji State

Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women’s hockey team hosts the Bemidji State University Beavers for a league-series this weekend. The Mavericks (6-10-2 overall, 5-7-0-0 WCHA) and Beavers (7-7-2 overall, 5-5-2-1 WCHA) will drop the puck at 7:07 p.m. Friday, and wrap-up the series on Saturday at 3:07 p.m.

Program History: The 2010-11 season will mark the 13th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State…MSU has competed in 437 games...The Mavericks hold a 126-272-39 (.333) all-time record.

Follow the Leader: Junior defenseman Ariel Mackley will serve as the team captain this season, with juniors forward Moira O’Connor and junior defenseman Jackie Otto as the alternate captains.

A Look at the Beavers: The Bemidji State Beavers own a 7-7-2 overall record with a 5-5-2-1 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association...They have recorded 30 goals to their opponents 38 goals...Bemidji State has scored 12 goals in the first period, 11 in the second and seven in the third...The Beavers have tallied 471 shots to their opponents 497 shots...BSU is 8-65 (.123) on the power play, while its opponents are 12-62 (.194)...The Beavers have eight skaters that have had at least one goal and have had 13 skaters that have had at least one point this season...Bemidji State is led by: senior forward Erin Cody (11-11--22), sophomore forward Emily Erickson (8-7--15), sophomore forward Sadie Lundquist (5-7--12) and senior forward Annie Bauerfeld (2-6--8)...Erickson is the owner of a team-high three power play goals...Junior defenseman Marlee Wheelhouse leads the team in penalties with eight for 27 minutes...BSU has had one primary goaltender in net for them this season, junior netminder Zuzana Tomcikova who owns a team-best 6-6-1 record, a 2.11 G.A.A., .933 save percentage and 362 saves...Head coach for Bemidji State is Steve Sertich  who embarks on his third season as the leader of the Beaver women’s hockey program. He began taking control of the squad for the 2008-09 season.

MSU/BSU History: The Minnesota State Mavericks are owners of a 20-17-9 overall record against Bemidji State...The two teams faced-off four times last season, and the Mavericks finished 0-2-2 against the Beavers...Last season against the Beavers, sophomore forward Lauren Smith led MSU with 1-2--3 in the four games...Junior defenseman Ariel Mackley tallied two points, both assists and three other current Mavericks earned a point in the contest: senior forward Lisa Edman, sophomore forward Lauren Zrust and sophomore defenseman Erika Magnusson.
