Maverick Goaltender Altmann Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

MADISON, Wis. — Minnesota State goaltender Alli Altmann, a sophomore from Eagan, Minn., earned this week's Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in last Friday's first-ever win over the defending national champion Wisconsin Badgers.
 
Minnesota State defeated Wisconsin Friday, 5-3, despite being outshot 51-18, and suffered a loss in Sunday's contest. The victory bettered the Mavericks’ all-time record against the Badgers to 1-42-2.

Altmann finished with a single-game career-high 48 saves and faced a career-high 51 shots. She had 13 saves in the first frame and 17 in both the second and third periods. One of the goals Altmann allowed came on the power play.

Altmann currently owns a 6-15-4 record, 670 saves, a .898 save percentage and a 3.11 goals-against average.

The women’s hockey program has earned three Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week awards this season:

The Mavericks, now 6-19-5 on the year and 4-17-5-3 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play, will play host to the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux this weekend. Friday’s contest will start at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday’s at 3:07 p.m. with both games being played at All Seasons Arena.
