Minnesota State Ends 2009-10 Season 7-22-5 Overall, 5-18-5-3 in WCHA

MANKATO, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women’s hockey squad wrapped up their 2009-10 campaign with a 7-22-5 overall record and 5-18-5-3 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play good for seventh place with 18 points.
Program History: The 2009-10 season marked the 12th year of women’s hockey as a varsity sport at Minnesota State. The Mavericks currently hold a 120-252-37 (.339) all-time record. The Mavericks earned their first-ever playoff and playoff series wins during the 2008-09 season in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs against the St. Cloud State Huskies.
Follow the Leader: Senior forward Kala Buganski was the Captain and senior forward Ashley Young was the Alternate Captain for the 2009-10 season.
Sayin’ Good-bye: The 2009-10 Minnesota State women’s hockey program said good-bye to seven seniors this season. Forwards Kala Buganski (136 GP, 33-43--76), Ida Clark (134 GP, 4-11--15), Jenna Hewitt (114 GP, 4-2--6), Christina Lee (139 GP, 43-52--95) and Ashley Young (122 GP, 27-49--76), along with defensemen Holly Snyder (135 GP, 10-37--47) and Kathleen Rosso (136 GP, 4-13--17).
Show Your Skills: Minnesota State senior forward Ashley Young has been selected for the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge on Friday, April 9, at Ford Field in Detroit.
Minnesota Notes: The Minnesota State University Mavericks traveled to Minneapolis, Minn. for a playoff tilt with the third-rated University of Minnesota Golden Gophers last month and were swept, which ended their 2009-2010 season...The Mavericks lost Friday evening contest in regulation by a score of 8-5 and were downed 4-3 in triple-overtime on Saturday afternoon...The triple overtime game marked the first time in program history MSU competed in a double or triple-overtime contest...Rookie forward Lauren Smith led the Mavericks on the weekend with five points (1-4--5). She tallied a goal and an assist on Friday and finished with three assists on Saturday...Senior Alternate Captain and forward Ashley Young finished the weekend with three points (1-2--3) all coming in Friday’s game...Four other Mavericks finished the weekend with two points including senior forward Jenna Hewitt (1-1--2), senior forward Christina Lee (1-1--2), senior defenseman Kathleen Rosso (0-2--2) and sophomore forward Moira O’Connor (2-0--2)...Senior blueliner Holly Snyder, junior forward Nina Tikkinen and sophomore defenseman Jackie Otto each earned an assist on the weekend.
