Box Score Minneapolis, Minn. --- Minnesota State dropped a Western Conference Hockey Association contest at Minnesota Friday night, 4-0.
Early in the first period, Minnesota winger Amanda Kessel jumped out to a one-on-none break, but junior goaltender Alli Altmann snatched the puck out of the air with her glove, keeping the game scoreless.
The Gophers were able to net the opening goal of the contest at the 12:02 mark when rookie forward Sarah Davis tossed the puck towards the net, and the puck then deflected off of MSU defenseman Emilia Andersson and past Altmann low glove side.
Minnesota did not wait long to tally its second goal. Golden Gopher junior Sarah Erickson found the back of the net 36 seconds into the second period. The Gophers then added a third goal at the 12:19 mark of the second frame when Kessel beat Altmann top shelf.
At the 2:15 mark of the third period the Gophers added a fourth goal, scored by senior forward Laura May.
Minnesota finished with 39 to MSU’s 18, and the Gophers went 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Mavericks went 0-for-5.
Altmann finished with a game-high 35 saves, while Minnesota’s netminder Noora Raty finished with 18.
Minnesota State (6-12-3, 5-9-1 WCHA) and Minnesota (14-6-0, 9-6-0 WCHA) will wrap up the WCHA series tomorrow afternoon at 4:07 p.m. at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. The Big Ten Network will broadcast the contest live.
