Box Score St. Cloud, Minn. --- The Mavericks dropped their third-straight WCHA-contest at St. Cloud State Friday, 2-0.
St. Cloud State used two second-period goals to earn its first victory of the 2010-11 season.
The Huskies went up 1-0 on an unassisted short-hand tally at 6:43 of the period scored by freshman forward Molli Mott who capitalized on a Maverick turnover and put the puck through MSU goaltender Alli Altmann’s legs.
St. Cloud State then capitalized on its first power play chance of the game at 12:39 of the second when sophomore forward Alex Nelson tipped in a goal in front of Altmann, giving the Huskies a 2-0 win.
Minnesota State was out shot 33 to 23, with MSU going 0-for-4 with an extra skater and the Huskies going 1-for-7.
Altmann finished with a game-high 31 saves and SCSU’s netminder Ashley Nixon all 23 Maverick shots.
Minnesota State (7-21-3, 6-18-1-0 WCHA) and St. Cloud State (1-28-1, 1-23-1-1 WCHA) will wrap-up their WCHA-series tomorrow afternoon at 2:07 p.m.
