Minneapolis, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s indoor track and field team participated in the University of Minnesota 2010 Open Saturday and finished the afternoon with three first-place finishes and 17 top-five finishes.
In the field events, Lauren Stelten earned fifth place in the pole vault competition with a height of 3.71 meters, while Brita Johnson finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 14.39 meters. In the long jump, Leah Heimerl (4.75 m) and Megan Olson (4.68 m) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Andrea Sellers finished second in the high jump with a jump of 1.58 meters.
The Maverick took the top three places in the 60 meter hurdles, Megan Olson finished first with a time of 9.41, Sellers second with 9.71 and Katie Hopper third with a time of 9.90. Danielle Jones earned first place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.97. In the 400 meter dash, Kelsey Leanard (58.83) and Becca Schmidt (1:02.52) finished third and fifth, respectively. In the 800 meter dash the Mavericks owned first second and third once again with Natalie Lyster (2:19.02) earning first, Melissa Clark (2:23.62) earning second and Jackie Beckett (2:30.12) finishing third. Lauren Beukelman earned fifth place in the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:42.30, while teammates Brittany Henderson (25.20) and Becca Schmidt (26.49) finished second and fourth in the 200 meter dash.
Minnesota State will be in action January 22 and January 23 at Iowa State.
